Landscapes for Seneca Nation
For the Landscapes for the Seneca Nation project, I explored the complex history and landscape of Salamanca, New York—territory belonging to the Seneca Nation, one of the six nations of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. The project began with research and readings acknowledging the Seneca Nation’s enduring presence despite centuries of displacement and colonial impact. Focusing on a 10-acre former rail yard west of downtown Salamanca, I analyzed the site’s ecological and cultural context through mapping and landscape studies. The final site plan envisions a space centered on healing, connection, and growth, informed by local partnerships and the historical relationship between people and land.
